Gas Line Services in Paradise Valley, AZ
If the fire pit at the far end of your Paradise Valley yard burns low whenever the grill is lit, you want gas run out to a casita or an outdoor kitchen, or a new range needs a line where none has been, you're on the right page. The Town's plan-review checklist asks for the math behind a gas system: each appliance's BTU rating, plus the size and length of the main and every branch. On a large lot, that length decides the pipe.
Sizing a gas run by its length is what the Town's checklist is built around, and Pavel Farcas (Paul) holds the license, plans the run and installs it himself.

We install, extend, reroute, repair and cap gas lines, indoors and out. The work covers ranges and cooktops, dryers, water heaters and tankless units, fire pits and fire features, grills and outdoor kitchens, detached casitas and guest houses, and whole-home generators. On the repair side, that means corroded sections of older pipe, fittings the utility has flagged for a leak, and appliance connectors that have been kinked or pulled when the appliance moved.
One call comes in often enough to answer here: a new range clicks but its burners barely light. That is low supply pressure reaching the appliance, or a valve somewhere on the branch left partly closed, and on a long lot it is usually a sizing question wearing a different hat. The branch gets measured, and the appliance's plate read before any part is priced.
In homes built before 1978, we only take on work that leaves painted surfaces undisturbed. If a gas route would need a painted wall opened, that part goes to a lead-safe certified contractor you hire directly; we do not perform or arrange it.

The Gas Plan Paradise Valley Asks For
Paradise Valley has adopted the 2015 International Fuel Gas Code, and the Town's residential plan-review checklist says what a set of plans shows when gas is part of the job. The wording is plain: “If gas is indicated, provide a schematic indicating BTU rating for appliances, size, and length of main and all branch lines. Sediment traps are required downstream of the shutoff valve.” The site plan also marks the location of “any gas lines.”
Why length matters as much as load
Gas loses pressure as it travels through pipe, and the code's sizing tables account for that by length. A pipe size that feeds a range 20 feet from the meter with room to spare can fall short when the same size runs 150 feet to a casita with a furnace, a cooktop, and a pizza oven. The schematic the Town wants is the same calculation a sound install needs: add up the BTUs of everything that can run at once, measure the longest run to each appliance, and pick the pipe size the tables call for at that length.
What that changes on a big lot
Where the numbers come from
Every gas appliance carries a rating plate that lists its input in BTUs per hour, and a standby generator's input is in its installation manual. We read the plates on everything already connected, since that load stays on the line a new branch has to share. If you expect to add something later, such as a second oven, a pizza oven, or patio heaters, tell us now. Sizing the main once for the finished property beats digging it up again for the next appliance.
Air for the burners in a casita
A furnace or water heater tucked into a casita closet burns gas, and a flame needs air. The same checklist asks plans to “Provide combustion air for all gas-fired appliances including size, type, and location of openings.” When a new branch feeds an appliance in a small, closed room, the openings that bring in the air are part of the plan, along with the pipe size. A utility room in the main house falls under the same line of the checklist.
Traps and bonding
The checklist places the sediment trap after the shutoff valve, where it catches debris before it reaches the controls. The electrical section of the same checklist asks that all interior water and gas piping be bonded; the bond itself is electrical work.
Long Runs and Weak Flames: Gas Calls in Paradise Valley
“The fire pit flame drops when the grill is on.”
An undersized run, most likely, and the length is the first measurement.
Two appliances on one long branch can draw more gas than the pipe can carry at that distance. We total the load, measure the run, and either upsize the line or split the branch.
“We want gas to the guest house at the back of the lot.”
The distance sizes the branch, and it can push the main up a size with it.
A detached building usually means an underground run in poly pipe, a riser at the building, and a shutoff where it enters. The length from the meter sets the size, and the load already on the main decides whether the main grows too.
“There's a gas smell out by the meter.”
Get clear of the house, then make the calls.
Get everyone out of the house without flipping switches, call 911 and Southwest Gas at 877-860-6020 from the street, and wait for the utility. Once they clear it, call us to find and repair the leak on the house side.

Install
The pipe goes in with a shutoff and connector at each appliance, and underground sections are laid in poly.
Proved at the far end
The finished line is checked for leaks before gas goes back into service, and the appliance on the longest branch is the one started first. A run that is short of pipe for the distance it covers gives itself away there before it gives itself away anywhere else.
01 The load, appliance by appliance
Every appliance the line will feed, existing and planned, read off its rating plate in Btu per hour and added. The total is the first of the two numbers the Town's checklist asks for.
02 The developed length, not the map distance
The distance the gas actually travels, following the pipe around every corner it has to turn on the way. On a large lot, this is the figure that surprises people.
03 The branch that changes because of both
Load and length are read together against the sizing tables, which is why the same fire pit can need two different bores depending only on where it stands.

The checklist is written for plan review on new homes and additions. On a smaller job, the same sizing still decides whether the far appliance gets enough gas.
The input ratings from each new appliance's spec sheet or the outdoor kitchen designer's drawings. The ones already in the house we read off their plates.
The loads and run lengths we measure are the same figures the Town's schematic uses, and you are welcome to pass our quote to your architect.
Yes, with a shutoff at each so either can be closed off alone; the size comes from the combined load at the longer length.
It gets capped at the right point so no dead-end pipe is left charged with gas, and the same goes for a range or dryer line that is out of use.
