Appliance Water Hookups in Phoenix
The decision behind a leaking or dead appliance is whether the machine failed or the small water line feeding it did, and those go to two different trades. What settles it is the valve and the tubing behind the appliance, which is where this trouble starts and where nobody looks until there is water on the floor.
Owner Pavel Farcas (Paul) takes the plumbing side of each hookup: the water in, the drain out and the valve that shuts it off. Connecting the dishwasher drain is a standard part of his garbage disposal installs.

“The ice maker quit making ice.”
Start at the valve behind the fridge.
Your refrigerator's install guide lists the water pressure it needs, and below that, the ice maker may not fill. The suspects on the plumbing side are a kinked tubing when the fridge was pushed back, a partially closed shutoff, or a clogged valve on the supply. Check the fridge's own water filter too, according to the schedule in its manual.
“There's water on the floor behind the refrigerator.”
The leak nobody sees: a fitting in the dark.
Compression fittings, cracked plastic tubing and weeping valves all leak where no one looks. Close the shutoff on the fridge line if you can reach it, or the home's main shutoff if you cannot, and leave the appliance itself alone.
“The dishwasher leaves water standing in the bottom.”
The hose is the first suspect.
On the plumbing side, look at the drain hose for a kink, a missing high loop, or a clogged connection at the disposal or sink tailpiece. A disposal installed recently, with its knockout plug still in place, blocks the dishwasher completely, as our garbage disposal page explains. If the hose and connections are clear, the problem is inside the dishwasher, and that is work for an appliance technician.
Appliance Water Hookups We Handle
Some new lines have to pass through a wall to reach the appliance. In homes built before 1978, we only take on work that leaves painted surfaces undisturbed. If a repair would need a painted wall opened, that part goes to a lead-safe certified contractor you hire directly; we do not perform or arrange it.

Cloudy glasses are a water problem
Spotting on glassware comes from minerals in the water itself, and a new supply line carries the same water. Our water treatment page covers what changes it.
How an Appliance Hookup Visit Runs
Give us the model number
Have the appliance's brand and model ready. Its installation guide specifies the pressure, tubing, and drain height it requires.
We check what is there
The shutoff, the supply, the drain point, and the path to the appliance are looked over, so the fittings match what is already there.
Connections made
The supply and drain are connected with the right valve and fittings for that model.
Water on, fittings watched
The water is turned on, and each fitting is checked dry while the appliance fills or runs.
Serving Phoenix From Our Phoenix Base
American Discount Plumbing is based in Phoenix and serves all of Phoenix.
What an Appliance Water Hookup Costs in Phoenix
A dishwasher connection at an existing stop is one of the smallest jobs we book, and a new refrigerator line across the kitchen takes longer; either way, you get a written number once we have seen the setup. If the visit ends with no work, a $75 service fee applies; with the hookup done, there is no fee.

Two Setups We Find Behind Appliances
American Discount Plumbing vs. the big national chains
A saddle valve clamped on years ago
A small valve bolted onto a copper pipe, with a needle that pierced the pipe to feed the ice maker.
Whirlpool's refrigerator manual says not to use a piercing-type saddle valve because it reduces flow and clogs more easily. Replacing it with a quarter-turn shutoff is a small job that can restore flow to a weak ice maker and remove a future leak point.
A refrigerator fed from a filter system under the sink
A reverse osmosis unit supplying both a drinking faucet and the refrigerator.
When the ice maker runs slow on a filtered line, the system's pressure and its filter cartridges are where we look first. Our reverse osmosis page covers the system side.
Hard Water, Garage Fridges and Moving a Line
Hard water in small lines
Hard water can scale pipes, the city's report says, and a quarter-inch fridge line is one of the narrowest runs in the house.
Garage refrigerators and cold nights
At least one maker's refrigerator manual says to run copper or PEX tubing only where temperatures stay above freezing. Sky Harbor sees under one freezing night a year, but the airport is not your garage, and a quarter-inch line on an uninsulated west wall behind a second fridge is a different thing from a line in the kitchen. Routing a garage fridge line along an inside wall is the safer path, and it costs nothing extra to decide that before the tubing goes in.
Moving the refrigerator's water line
Moving the fridge to a new wall is a bigger job than installing a hookup, and our remodel plumbing page covers what it entails in Phoenix.
Five Choices When an Appliance Goes In
01 What line does the appliance need?
The tubing is set by the appliance, and the paperwork in its box names it. Keep that paperwork for the visit if the box is still around.
02 How should the drain hose run?
Whirlpool's dishwasher guide calls for an air gap when the drain hose connects lower than 20 inches above the floor, and its help pages say to loop the hose high when there is no air gap. Where local code calls for an air gap, it mounts on the sink or counter and needs its own hole, so decide before the countertop is cut.
03 Filtered water to the fridge?
A reverse osmosis line to the refrigerator provides filtered ice, as long as the system meets the fridge maker's minimum pressure. If it cannot, a direct cold line with the fridge's own filter is the simpler setup.
04 One stop under the sink, or two?
A dual-outlet stop supplies the faucet and the dishwasher from a single hot supply. Separate stops let you close the dishwasher line on its own, which is handy before a trip or when the machine needs service. Either works, and the cabinet space under the sink often decides it.
05 Disposal or sink tailpiece?
With a disposal, the dishwasher drains into its inlet. Without one, a branch tailpiece under the sink takes the hose. Either way, the connection sits above the sink trap.
Appliance Water Hookup FAQs
Still have a question? Call Pavel (Paul) directly and get a straight answer, no phone tree.

Close is better. Dishwasher makers cap the drain hose length at 12 feet as a current limit, and your model's guide lists its number. A dishwasher at the end of a long run of cabinets may need its drain planned before the cabinets go in.
Check its guide first. At least one maker builds a water shutoff into the inlet hose and warns against cutting it for any reason.
Whirlpool's refrigerator manual calls for a half-inch copper or PEX household supply line as the source. Under the kitchen sink is a common spot, and the path from there to the fridge is planned with you.
Your dishwasher's installation guide names the line and fitting it expects. If the old line does not match or shows wear, it is swapped during the hookup, before the machine goes back under the counter.
Yes. The line comes from the nearest workable cold supply, along a path we agree on with you.
Closing the shutoffs on the refrigerator line and the dishwasher supply before a long absence removes two leak points from play. Check your refrigerator's manual for how to switch off the ice maker while its water is off.
Go by your refrigerator's manual. An old, thin plastic line is worth replacing while the fridge is pulled out.
Hot. Dishwasher installation guides call for hot water at the machine, and one current guide specifies 120°F, so the supply comes off the hot stop under the sink.
Yes. Washer boxes, valves, and hoses are on our laundry room plumbing page.
